Minnesota Aurora FC wins Organization of the Year and Milestone Award

Eagan –  Minnesota Aurora FC announced two really special awards for the women’s soccer team. The USL W named Aurora the organization of the year and the Minnesota chapter of National Girls and Women in Sports Day named Aurora the Milestone Award winners. 

“The W League is excited to name Minnesota Aurora FC Organization of the Year after the incredible season the club had both on and off the field in 2022,” said Amanda Vandervort, USL Super League and W League President. “From the start Aurora created and fostered an authentic connection to its community. It’s a connection that has inspired girls and women not only in Minnesota, but across the country.”

Last season, Aurora averaged 5,500 fans per game and sold out 6 of its 9 home matches. It set the USL W record for attendance at the championship match, which 6,500 fans attended.

Minnesota Aurora FC is a pre-professional soccer team in the USL W League which was created in 2022 to create a new pathway to the pros for women. Aurora is a founding team of the league, which has grown to over 60 teams for the 2023 season. 

In 2022, Aurora went undefeated in the regular season. They made it to the championship game where they lost to Tormenta SC, finishing the season 13-1-1. The team was founded by a group of Twin Cities residents and is owned by 3080 community owners across the US and 8 countries making it unique in US women’s soccer.
